Welcome

National Register

The Board of the Civic Association of Hollin Hills (CAHH) has created a committee to pursue nomination of Hollin Hills to the National Register of Historic Places. The prestigious honor of National Register designation has several advantages for our special community beyond enhancing value and appeal of our properties. It will expand knowledge of our community's historic and unique value while encouraging preservation.

National Register Nomination Project: House Types and Time Line (An Update)

The National Register project is moving along!! The 50-page draft of the National Register of Historic Places registration form is being reviewed by at least ten Hollin Hills' residents (see #1 on timeline below).

The inventory, based on the survey forms that so many of you helped complete, is now posted on www.hollinhills.org. Please go online and review the entry for your home. A list of House Types also is available on the web site. If you believe there are discrepancies, please contact me!

The revised timeline for completing our National Register nomination:

(1) Draft of the National Register of Historic Places registration form prepared by EHT Traceries is submitted for review to CAHH. [March - May 2010]

(2) Submission of the first draft of the registration form for content review to the regional office of VDHR. [April 2010]

(3) The inventory, based on completion of the data entry of the survey forms, goes to VDHR (Virginia Department of Historic Resources) to process. EHT Traceries then checks for accuracy. [May 2010]

(4) Submission of the second draft of the registration form and survey forms for content and format review to the main and regional offices of VDHR. [No later than June 25, 2010]

(5) Letters sent by VDHR to owners of properties in the proposed National Register Historic District (i.e., the neighborhood of Hollin Hills) to announce the upcoming public hearing. [July 19-23, 2010]

(6) Public hearing scheduled locally to take place 45-65 days prior to VDHR's State Review Board meeting. EHT Traceries makes a presentation on the historic district nomination; a VDHR representative discusses tax credits and the nomination process. [August 9-17, 2010, for a September State Review Board meeting; later for a December meeting.]

(7) VDHR's State Review Board meeting to (a) recommend sending the nomination application to the National Park Service, National Register of Historic Places, for approval and (b) designate the Hollin Hills Historic District, adding the district to the Virginia Landmarks Register. [September 16, 2010]

(8) VDHR sends the application to National Register for Historic Places for approval. [October/November 2010]

(9) National Register reviews the nomination application and designates Hollin Hills as a Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. [December 2010/January 2011]

(10) Celebrate at the next big Hollin Hills event!!
